How use BMW ICOM ISTA to diagnose car clear DTC codes?

This blog will show you clearly how to diagnose BMW cars using BMW ICOM and ISTA-D software. Check all car module status and delete fault code history. Start as below steps. It’s easy!

Tool used: BMW ICOM A2 WIFI or BMW ICOM NEXT

Software recommended: V2017.03 BMW ICOM HDD ISTA-D 4.04.12

Step 1: Connect ICOM with your car then open ISTA-D 4.04.12.

You need to do a vehicle test firstly.

Go to “Vehicle information”→ “Control unit tree”→ “Start vehicle test”.

Click “Yes” to start vehicle test.

Step 2: When the vehicle test is completed, the faulty module will be displayed in yellow or red.

Yellow means there is an error memory and red means no response.

If the whole is green, there is no problem at all.

Press the “Display fault memory” button to check the error code.

Step 3: Then you go to “Vehicle management”→ “Troubleshooting”→ “Fault memory” screen.

You can see the error description with the error code. Double click each item it will display a detailed description of that phenomenon.

(The “Calculate test plan” button will guide you to check the error)

Just click “Delete fault memory” and “Yes” to clear the fault memory. If it was not really a big problem, all the modules would turn green.
